About the Rural Resilience Coalition
Vision
The Texas A&M University System aims to be nationally recognized as the leading academic system advancing rural resilience. Through sustained, collaborative efforts, TAMUS will drive measurable impact in expanding rural health access and outcomes, strengthening agricultural and economic sustainability, enhancing disaster preparedness and community well-being, and building robust education-to-workforce pipelines that cultivate the next generation of rural leaders.
Goals
- Position the Texas A&M University System as a national leader in advancing rural resilience by aligning academic, research, and outreach efforts to strengthen the health, vitality, and sustainability of rural communities across Texas.
- Build a System-wide Framework for Rural Resilience. Establish interdisciplinary working groups across TAMUS to define rural priorities, map assets and gaps, and shape coordinated strategies that enhance health, agriculture, education, leadership development, and disaster preparedness.
- Develop Strategic Partnerships for Rural Innovation. Engage leaders from government, philanthropy, education, and local communities to co-design solutions, align resources, and launch collaborative pilot projects that drive long-term rural impact.
- Within the next 3–5 years, the Center for Rural Resilience will establish itself as a national model and clearinghouse for rural innovation, driving system-wide adoption of rural-impact benchmarks and leadership metrics while cultivating a thriving rural leadership ecosystem, supported by new Fellows, internship networks, and certificate programs, anchored in The Texas A&M University System.

Rural Resilience at The Texas A&M University System
Empowering Rural Texans Through Research, Innovation, and Partnership
The Texas A&M University System initiative brings together researchers, practitioners, and community leaders to address the challenges facing rural communities, encompassing healthcare, transportation, agriculture, education, and economic vitality.
Rural communities are diverse and essential to the state’s economy and identity. Our work focuses on creating practical solutions and long-term strategies that help rural areas thrive. Through interdisciplinary research and deep community engagement, we connect local needs with world-class expertise across The Texas A&M University System.
Four Focus Areas
Rural Health Access & Innovation
Expanding access to quality care through data-driven decision-making, and collaborations with regional providers.
Transportation & Infrastructure
Supporting safer, more efficient movement of people, goods, and services while strengthening public infrastructure.
Agriculture & Economic Development
Promoting sustainable agriculture, entrepreneurship, workforce opportunity, and resilient rural economies.
Education & Workforce Development
Improving pathways for K–12, higher education, and technical training to support the next generation of rural leaders.

Rural specialists from across the Texas A&M System and the State of Texas, working in rural health, infrastructure, agriculture, education, and workforce resilience.
